Neal, eat your vegetables!

The tubes of the interwebs have many strange and wonderful things in them. Facebook is both strange and wonderful, largely because people can use it to their own ends and it is always fun to see what they come up with. Case in point: Operation Make Neal Eat Vegetables, which endeavors to get Neal to, well, eat his vegetables.

Now that there's a boycott, I have to go to McDonald's

You can tell it is getting into the political silly season here in the states when groups come out against all sorts of absurd things, usually "for the children..." Because, who will think of the children, if not the likes of the American Family Association.

Today's target: McDonald's

Specifically the fact that McDonald's has donated money to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and also has a company representative on the NGLCC board - a list I will have to make note of when I do my shopping. (see also: corporate advisory group)

This is McDonald's and I know that they also do lots of bad things, but this is not one of them. So I interrupt my usual anti-McKentuckyFriedBurgerRoyalty (et al) hate for a moment...

Quick question for the vegetarians, vegans and the like...

I am in the middle of writing a cookbook and would like to include some tips for parents of children who have declared they will no longer eat food with faces. Whether it's nutrition, the meatless recipe that you cooked 3-4 times a week at first, or the delicate handling a child who seems to be rejecting your lovingly prepared meal, parents need help with this. So, two simple questions:

• If you could some advice to the parents of a newly vegetarian/vegan child, what would it be?
• What is the worst thing you can do if your child decides to eat a meatless diet? (Personal experiences from hell are welcome.)

Martha Stewart's next Big Idea

I have just been over at Martha Stewart's site telling her what I think her next big project should be. The list is varied, including a lifestyle magazine for pet owners, which would have "pet crafts" (My cat won't hold still while I decoupage her.), Martha stores (Seriously, doesn't she have them?), and a merchandise line targeting a younger demographic (rolls eyes - isn't everything already?).

My choice? A magazine for people with food allergies. At the moment, this is running even with the pets. I'll make you a deal. You vote for the food allergies magazine and I'll draw you a pattern for the ring-bearer pillow for your dog, if that's really what you want at your wedding.

Wandering the web...bacon, booze and other tasty tidbits

For a number of reasons - mostly sloth, indecision, not wanting to brave the tundra outside my door, er, I mean research - I have been wandering around the web a bit today and there is some amusing stuff out there. Things I want to eat, things I want to drink, things I want...so I thought I'd share a few.

Before we start, we should pour ourselves a drink. Something interesting. Something  local. Something that includes at least one basic food group. How about Bacon Vodka?  McAuliflower of Brownie Points  has been doing a little meandering of her own lately, but I think she still lives close enough to be local and I am quite sure she will back me up on bacon being its own food group so I am covered, right?
